Lisa “tiny” Gray-Garcia is a self described Poet, Writer, Teacher, Poverty Skolar, welfareQUEEN. She founded POOR Magazine/PoorNewsNetwork in 1996 and has since launched several radical forms of media resistance, media production and education on issues of poverty, race, and disability. In 2006, she launched the Race, Poverty and Media Justice Institute at POOR as an outgrowth of the multiple forms of media and journalism education efforts in communities of color struggling with poverty and racism. She brings her vast scholarship to the world of education policy and racial justice in her work at Justice Matters - attempting to ensure that unheard voices of poor folks of color are heard, understood and recognized in the media and in the community. Lisa just published my first book, Criminal of Poverty; Growing Up Homeless in America on City Lights Foundation Press.
