HIRAM J. IRIZARRY OSORIO is a research associate at the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity. He received his B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Puerto Rico (Mayagüez Campus) in 1996, his M.A. (1999), and Ph.D. (2005) in political science from The Ohio State University. His research and teaching interests are in comparative politics, political economy of taxation, Latin American politics, democratization, politics of development, state building, and construction of race (and its intersection).
