Dalton Conley

Dalton Conley is director of the Center for Advanced Social Science Research (CASSR) and is a Professor of the Social Sciences and Chair of Sociology at New York University. In 2005, Conley became the first sociologist to win the NSF’s Alan T. Waterman Award. His research focuses on how socio-economic status is transmitted across generations and on the public policies that affect that process. He is the author of six books including The Pecking Order: A Bold New Look at How Family and Society Determine Who We Become and Being Black, Living in the Red: Race, Wealth, and Social Policy in America. He also holds appointments at NYU’s Wagner School of Public Service, as an Adjunct Professor of Community Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and as a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER).
